Welcome Back!

Dear Van Buren Families and Friends,

Welcome back! The entire Van Buren Elementary staff is thrilled to begin a new school year with your children. It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Ice Cream Social—what a perfect way to reconnect and get ready for a year of learning and growth.

As we prepare for the first day of school on September 3, 2025, here is some important information to help your family have a smooth start.

Important Information
  • New Staff: Meet the new faces joining our team.
  • Health Office: Find details on medication drop-off procedures and other health-related updates.
  • Upcoming Events: Mark your calendars for key school events.

For quick answers on transportation, lunch menus, and more, be sure to check out the district’s Back to School Quick Reference Guide.

All elementary students will receive an ID badge which must be attached to their backpack using the luggage tag which will be provided. Elementary IDs will be used for transportation purposes. Parents can track when their student gets on/off the school bus on the MyRide K-12 app

Partnering for Success
We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is vital for student success. We encourage you to stay involved throughout the year by attending parent-teacher conferences, volunteering, and participating in school activities.

We are looking forward to a great year filled with fantastic learning opportunities, laughter, and growth.

Warm regards,
Cindy Cronin
Principal

After School Enrichment

We're excited to offer our after-school enrichment clubs again this year! We know how much our students enjoy these opportunities, and we appreciate your enthusiasm.

We want to give you some insight into how our club offerings are determined. The selection of clubs each session is driven by the interests and availability of our dedicated school staff. These clubs are a great way for our teachers and staff to share their passions with students, and we are grateful for their willingness to volunteer their time.

A note about Creativity Club: The brochure description is a little vague (!), but students in this club will learn to finger knit. They will produce a knitted work that they can keep, gift, or donate.

You may also notice that clubs are often offered to specific grade levels or grade level bands (e.g., K-2 or 3-5). This allows us to make sure the activities and content are developmentally and age-appropriate for the students participating.

Please refer to the brochure linked here for club offerings and the sign up form.

Registration for Semester 1 must be completed by September 12, 2025!

Learning begins promptly at 8:45 AM. Students arriving after this time will be marked tardy. To ensure a smooth start to your child's day, we recommend arriving by 8:30 AM to allow time for unpacking, socializing, and settling into class.

Need to report an absence, tardy, early pickup, or dismissal change? Use our convenient online form! This ensures timely communication with the Attendance Office. Paper notes are also accepted.

For all attendance-related matters, please contact the Main Office at (315) 638-6121.

Handbook

Student & Family Handbook

Attached is the Van Buren Student & Family Handbook which is a comprehensive guide for students and families outlining school rules, policies and expectations to ensure a safe and productive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Note on updated electronics policy: New York State passed legislation that will restrict the use of cellphones and other electronic devices by students beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. On September 3, 2025, all schools in our district will be required to implement a “bell-to-bell” ban, prohibiting students from using cellular phones and other devices with internet capability (i.e. Smart watches) from their arrival to school until dismissal. Learn more about our policy in our Code of Conduct and on the district's website.
