Spring is in the air!

Hello Van Buren Families and Friends!

Spring is here, bringing with it (hopefully!) sunshine, warmer days, and a calendar packed with engaging events here at school! Get ready for a busy and exciting month filled with field trips, the Scholastic Book Fair, and other spring events. I also want to extend a huge THANK YOU to our PTA and families who made Staff Appreciation Week extra-special.

Mark Your Calendars
  • 5/12 & 5/13: New York State Math assessments (grades 3-5)
  • 5/15: Last day of after school enrichment & clubs
  • School Budget Vote on May 20
  • Monday, May 26: Schools closed in honor of Memorial Day
  • Spring Carnival: Thursday, June 5th at 6:00. It should be a fun evening!
  • Friday, June 6th: no school for students

Moving Soon? Help Us Prepare for a Smooth Transition!
If your family has plans to move before the start of the next school year or during the summer, please take a moment to complete the attached form. Providing this information allows us to plan effectively for staffing and resources, ultimately ensuring a smoother transition for your child, whether they are staying or moving. Your timely response is greatly appreciated!

Safe Play at School
This is a friendly reminder to please ensure your child wears sneakers to school, especially on their scheduled Physical Education (PE) days. While we understand that Crocs and sandals can be comfortable, they are not appropriate footwear for PE class due to safety concerns and the nature of the activities. Additionally, these types of shoes can make it difficult for students to run and play safely during recess. Sneakers provide the necessary support and traction for physical activities, helping to prevent slips, trips, and injuries.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our students safe and active!

Outside of school hours families are welcome to enjoy the playground. While there, check out our new communication boards!

We're so grateful for your active participation and look forward to a fantastic month together!

Warm regards,
Cindy Cronin

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to highlighting the importance of emotional well-being for all ages, including our children. Just like physical health, mental health plays a crucial role in a child's overall development, learning, and happiness.

Throughout May, we will be engaging in age-appropriate activities in the classroom to help students understand their feelings, develop coping strategies, and recognize when they or a friend might need support.

If you have any concerns about your child's mental health, our school psychologist, Dr. McGlynn, and our school counselor, Mrs. Massaro, and our school social worker, Mrs. Fabbri, are valuable resources. Please don't hesitate to reach out to them. Together, we can create a community that prioritizes mental health and empowers our children to thrive emotionally.

Be a Force for Fun and Learning! Van Buren PTA Needs You!

Did you know the Van Buren PTA plays a vital role in making our school such a fantastic place? From exciting literacy programs to the wonderful events that build our strong community, the PTA supports all our students.

Now, we have an exciting opportunity for you to get more involved! Several of our dedicated PTA officers are moving on after years of incredible service, and we're looking for enthusiastic parents to step up and help shape the future of our PTA.

As a PTA officer, you'll have the chance to:
  • Spark joy by helping to plan fun and enriching events for our kids.
  • Connect with other amazing Van Buren families and build lasting friendships.
  • Forge connections with our wonderful Van Buren staff, including our new principal!
